puglia
Puglia is a long, thin wine region in the far south-eastern corner of the 'boot' of Italy. Puglia has a formidable array of natural tools to help encourage prolific vine growth. The hot Mediterranean climate, persistent sunshine and occasional sea breezes make for a near-perfect environment for viticulture.

abruzzo
Abruzzo is an Italian wine region on the east (Adriatic) coast. Winemaking traditions in Abruzzo date back to the sixth century BC thanks to the Etruscans, who played a major role in introducing viniculture to the area.
- Montepulciano d’Abruzzo -
This Italian red is made from Montepulciano grapes. It is quite distinct from Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which is a Sangiovese-based wine from Tuscany.

barolo
Barolo is a traditional hillside village in the hills of Piemonte. The vineyards and wineries there have long been famous for producing some of Italy's very finest red wines – predominantly from the region's signature grape variety, Nebbiolo. Barolo wine is so revered that it was one of just three wines awarded DOCG status on the day that the classification was introduced in July 1980.

tuscany
The most enduringly famous of all Italian wine regions, thanks to the romantic glamor of its endless rolling hills, cypress-lined country roads and hilltop villages. But even without all of this, evaluated on the merits of its wines alone, Tuscany stands tall, its reputation founded on such iconic wines as Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
- Vino Nobile di Montepulciano -
One of several classic Tuscan red wines based on the Sangiovese grape variety. It comes from the vineyards that surround Montepulciano, a picturesque hill town in southeastern Tuscany.

rosso di montalcino
Found in the same defined area as its bigger brother, the Brunello di Montalcino. Like its Montalcino sibling, it is a full-bodied wine crafted from pure Sangiovese.

brunello di montalcino
This wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso grapes grown on the slopes around Montalcino – a classic Tuscan hilltop village south of Siena. Sangiovese Grosso is the large-berried form of Sangiovese. Its name here translates roughly as 'little dark one'. The first recordings of red wines from Montalcino date back to the early 14th Century. However, the all-Sangiovese Brunello di Montalcino style we know today did not emerge until the 1870s, just after the creation of a single Italian state.

chianti
The first Chianti wine zone was officially demarcated by Grand Duke Cosimo Medici III in 1716, and Barone Ricasoli of Castello di Brolio winery is credited with laying the foundations of the modern Chianti style in the late 19th Century. The area's most highly regarded wines come from the Chianti Classico zone. Classico bottles are adorned with the famous black rooster (gallo nero) seal.

Veneto is a substantial and increasingly important wine region in the northeastern corner of Italy. Veneto is slightly smaller than Italy's other main wine-producing regions – Piemonte, Tuscany, Lombardy, Puglia and Sicily – yet it generates more wine than any of them.

amarone della valpolicella
In order to concentrate the natural sugars and aromatics in Valpolicella wines, local producers began drying their grapes after harvest, to remove water from the berries while retaining sweetness and flavor. The early amarone wines were seen as mistakes – recioto left to ferment for too long – but eventually the style gained recognition and great respect.

valpolicella
The most famous red wine district in northeastern Italy's Veneto wine region. It's not hard to understand why, given the easy-drinking appeal of regular red Valpolicella, coupled with the prestige of its powerful and intensely flavored counterpart Amarone della Valpolicella.
